Why "Two Cents?"

Why "Two Cents?"

I'm a mid-life artist who found my voice through clay.

I grew up the middle of five kids on a 30-acre homestead, part of an entrepreneurial family that knew how to work. I thrived outside and spent my childhood tinkering — fascinated by how things work. I was not a great student. By graduation, I still had no idea what to do with my life.

I met my husband in college, happily earned my "Mrs.," and never looked back. We raised two daughters through years of homeschooling, horses, gardening, and several moves. When the girls reached high school, I took a job as an aide in their school's art department — which happened to have a ceramics room. I learned to center and throw on the wheel during free periods and after school. I was hooked.

That was eleven years ago. The girls are grown, and my life as a busy mom has become the life of a driven creative. I'm a full-time maker, 31 years married, and grateful for every mentor who has shaped the journey.

The name Two Cents Ceramics holds two meanings. The first: someone compelled to speak, invited or not. The second: the widow in the Bible who quietly offered her last two coins without fanfare. These two sides keep me balanced — compelled to make and offer what I have, but striving to do it without pomp or arrogance.

I'd love to hear from you. Ask questions, share your own clay journey, or just say hello.

Thank you for listening,

Connie
